Welcome back to a new season of the NCCC’s Go-Ride cycle training at Far Peak and Moreton Fire College.
Go-Ride is British Cycling’s development programme for young people. The programme provides a fun and safe way to introduce young riders to the world of cycle sport and provides a platform to improve bike handling skills.
Getting involved is easy, simply come along to the North Cotswold Cycling Club’s Go-Ride events, where young people will be able to sample the various cycle sport disciplines and start enjoying one of the fastest growing sports in the UK today under the instruction of our resident coaches John Michelbacher and Lesley Bray.
NCCC Go-Ride Programme:
For dates and venues of Go-Ride events please go to the Club calendar
Each session will consist of Go-Ride coaching from 09:30 to 10:30 (when we at the Far Peak site it will be from 10 to 11am), but please arrive 15 minutes prior to this to complete registration and bike checks. Timings are approximate and will vary slightly with weather, track conditions and the structure of the training. We reserve the right to cancel events due to adverse weather etc.
NCCC Go-Ride event takes place at the following two venues.
Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh (access off A44, postcode GL56 0RH) on a range of traffic-free tarmac, woodland or grass circuits that will suit a range of road, mountain or hybrid bikes across the varied programme. On arrival please mention NCCC Go-Ride at the gate house, then take to the top of the estate via the main through road. Toilets are available in the Four Shires building on Firth Lane.
Far Peak, Northleach (access off the Fosseway, postcode GL54 3LJ). This facility provides excellent off road trails, while parents can relax at the excellent café facilities.
Registration and bike checks for each session commence 15 minutes prior to the start (e.g. 09:15). There is an initial joining fee of £5 to cover 2018 Junior membership of the North Cotswold Cycling Club, after your first session there will be a fee for each Go-Ride session of £3 per participant (the first session is free).
Please visit North Cotswold Cycling Club on the British Cycling website – or go directly to the Join Our Club page on the British Cycling website.
Please complete this joining process before attending a Go-Ride event. Would all parents/guardians please ensure that their children attending a Go-Ride event have:
- a quality, well-fitting cycle helmet (children will not be permitted to participate otherwise);
- a suitable sized bicycle that is in good working order;
- appropriate clothing, suitable to cycling and to the weather conditions (e.g. gloves, hats, waterproofs or, just possibly, sunscreen when required!);
- additional warm, dry clothing for periods between activities;
- any medication they may require (e.g. inhalers – cycling is an energetic sport) along with a completed medical form;
- a water bottle and snacks.
Parents are able to leave their children with the coaches and club officers (but must collect them promptly at the end of sessions and be contactable at all times), however, we encourage you to stay and participate, as volunteers are required to steward some coaching events and to enable us to extend the event to racing activities.
